Guest Workshops

This workshop explores how to turn improvised scenes into fully realized comedy sketches. Students will begin by improvising short scenes in small groups.

In the second half of the workshop, students will improvise new scenes and work independently to transform them into sketches of their own.

Each sketch will be performed, followed by feedback and notes focused on strengthening comedy, clarity, and structure.

This is a focused sketch-writing workshop, designed to help you turn a simple idea into a full comedy scene. (There will be no improvising or performing.)

Each student must arrive with a one-line premise for a sketch (for example:“What if a guy was $10 short of being a millionaire?”). Together, we’ll break down each premise and work through how that idea can become a strong, playable sketch.

After the workshop, students will go home and write their sketch based on their premise. Sketches can be submitted afterward, and Kevin McDonald will provide written notes, which will be shared with students.
