The "I'm Going To Watch A Live Comedy Show In Fall 2021" Checklist
If you’ve never been to a live comedy show - or if, thanks to the pandemic, it’s been so long that you may as well have forgotten - check out our handy-dandy checklist below for all the things you’ll need to bring/do/say.
Make sure you show up early. Life is different now. Gone are the days of being able to go from the sidewalk to your seat in less than 30 seconds. At shows you are now required to show your vaccination passport, ID and (usually) fill out your contact info in the event that contact tracing is required. This is time-consuming.
Stay in your assigned seat. Yes, there’s assigned seats now. For comedy shows! When you arrive you will likely be shown to your seats, like the moneybags bigshot that you always wanted to be. With that said, if you see other seats that look tantalizing, speak to the person who sat you down before you move. Venues have strict rules about seating and you moving is the exact type of thing even a moneybags hotshot can’t get away with.
Leave your mask on unless you’re seated and consuming a beverage. We all hate masks. We hate wearing them. It’s not just you. But we have to. You understand that part. We have to wear them. (Sidenote: if you have an issue with being required to wear a mask indoors, the staff of a comedy venue probably aren’t the bigwig decision-makers you need to talk to in order to get that changed.)
Be nice to everyone. The venue staff? The performers? The people at the next table? Be nice to everyone. We all just went through the same crappy pandemic and we want to feel good being out of the house again.
Take pictures and post on social media.
Have fun. This may seem like a gimme but yeah don’t forget this one.
Welcome back!
