Shakespeare, Off the Ruff: Around the Maypole

Prepare yourselves for the ultimate Shakespearience!

“Be stirring as the time; befire with fire;”

May 1st… Beltane… the first day of Summer in the Gaelic calendar. Celebrated with bonfires symbolizing good luck and protection, maypoles symbolizing fertility and unity, handfasting rituals between couples promising devotion. Dare not forget offerings to the sidhe, the fairy folk, because the veil between realms is thin...

Shakespeare, Off the Ruff brings you an improvised Shakespearean play on this very magical night. Will our hero’s good luck hold? Will the fairy folk be pleased with their offerings? Will couples exchange happy vows or watch their love twist like streamers 'round a maypole? Not even this band of merry players can tell you, for only the fates of improvisation know...
