LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

At Théâtre Sainte-Catherine and Montreal Improv, we acknowledge that our work in Tiohtià:ke takes place on unceded & stolen territory. Before colonial contact, this land was home to the St. Lawrence Iroquoians. Today, Tiohtià:ke is recognized as the traditional territory of the Kanien’kehá:ka (Mohawk), members of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, who are the rightful caretakers of these lands, waters, and resources.

We recognize that Tiohtià:ke has been a dynamic convergence point for nations, peoples, and traditions for millennia. It has long served as a place for Indigenous peoples to live, meet, and exchange, including but not limited to the Huron-Wendat, Algonquin Anishinaabe, and Atikamekw.

We recognize that we create theatre on land that has been a site of human creativity and storytelling for thousands of years. With humility, we are grateful to live, create, collaborate, play, and work here.
